Bathroom Remodeling Tips

According to HGTV, if you’re planning to remodel your bathroom this year, the first thing you must do is define your goals. Do you want a bigger shower that’s easier to access? Cabinets with more storage? A bathroom with better lighting? Start off with a list that prioritizes your “must have” and wish list so you can easily identify what things you must have as part of your remodel, and which things would be nice to have it your budget allows.  Next consider how much you have to spend. Setting a budget based on what you can afford, will help you be more realistic about what bathroom features you can afford now and which ones might have to wait until later.

Tips for Setting a Bathroom Remodeling Budget:

  • Do your homework. Look at what’s available and make a list of all tub and shower features you like, cabinet styles, etc. Some remodeling experts recommend cutting out pictures and making an image board of the look, style and features you ultimately want in your bathroom. This will help put you and the remodeling company you hire on the same page with regard to your goals.
  • Interview 2-3 bathroom remodeling companies. Then check their references with past customers and local business bureaus to ensure you are getting a licensed, insured contractor with experience. When it comes to bathroom remodeling, it’s also helpful to have a licensed plumber overseeing the work.

Whether your goal is as simple as converting a bath tub to a shower, or more elaborate like adding in a walk in tub, jetted tub with wall paneling and a tub window, bathroom remodeling is a worthwhile project if you want to add value to your and increase the resale potential. While many things have changed in the real estate market the last few years, the high demand for homes with remodeled kitchens and baths has not.
